Avenues of Grace
What is journaling?
- an account of daily events
- a notebook of insights into scripture
- a list of prayer requests
- collection of sermon notes.
What is the value of journaling?
Help in self-understanding and evaluation
Romans 12:3 says, Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.
Help in Meditation
This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do. (Joshua 1:8)
Helps in following in the sermon.
Help in Expressing Thoughts and Feelings to the Lord
Psalm 62:8 says pour out your hearts to Him.
Help in Remembering the Lord’s Works
Psalm 77:11-12 says, I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.
Help in creating and preserving a spiritual heritage.
Psalm 102:18 says, Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.
Help monitoring Goals and Priorities
Philippians 3:12-16 says, Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold† of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind† and reaching forward to what is ahead, 14 I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this also to you. 16 In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained.
Help maintaining the other Avenues of Grace.
Romans 8:13 says, because if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
