Avenues of Grace: Fellowship

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not
neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one
another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many
wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed
were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their
possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had
need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in
their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising
God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number
day by day those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47)
That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have
fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son
Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:3)
Anybody in fellowship with Jesus Christ is also in fellowship with anybody
else in fellowship with Jesus Christ. This is our common ground. It is not social,
economic, intellectual, cosmetic, our race, or anything else superficial. Our
common ground is that which is pulsing through the life of every Christian, the
heartbeat of God. Our common ground is that we possess a common eternal life
and are children in the same family.
Fellowship can provide unique benefits:

I. You experience the Grace of God in ways you otherwise cannot.

A.Illustration of blood flowing through the body.

II.You experience the Gifts and Grace given to others.

A.As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of
God’s varied grace: (1 Peter 4:10)

III.Your practice of the spiritual disciplines is encouraged.

A.But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none
of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:13)

IV.You experience Love in ways you otherwise cannot.

A.A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I
have loved you, you also are to love one another. (John 13:34)
B.No one can hurt you like a church member, but no one can love you like a
church member can.
C.Jesus Christ is in those people who are truly saved, and He will love you
through them.
