This Wednesday Night at 6pm we will be starting a new series during our prayer meeting. Not only will we spend intentional time in prayer but we will also discuss avenues of grace that you can take this year to help you enjoy God more fully in 2017.  The first week we will be looking at the avenue of Bible Intake.

And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. (Acts 20:32)
The Ways We Take God’s Word In
  1. Hearing God’s Word
    • Luke 11:28: But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
    • 1 Timothy 4:13: Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
  2. Reading God’s Word
    • Matthew 4:4: It is written,“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
      • How often should we read God’s Word?
    • 2 Timothy 3:16: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that ethe man of God may be complete, fequipped gfor every good work.
    • Revelation 1:3: Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
      • Three Practical Suggestions
        1. Find the time
        2. Find a Bible Reading Plan
        3. Find one word or phrase to meditate on
  3. Meditate on God’s Word
    • Joshua 1:8: This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
    • Psalm 1:1-3: Blessed is the manwho walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a treeplanted by streams of waterthat yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
    • Psalm 119:98-99: Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.
  4. Study God’s Word
    • Ezra 7:10: For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel.
    • Acts 17:11: Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
    • 2 Timothy 4:13: When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments.
  5. Memorize God’s Word
    • Why memorize?
      • It supplies spiritual power
        • Psalm 119:11: I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
      • It Strengthens your faith
        • Proverbs 22:17-19: Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you,if all of them are ready on your lips. That your trust may be in the Lord,I have made them known to you today, even to you.
      • It is a means of God’s Guidance
        • Psalm 119:24: Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.
  6. Apply God’s Word
    • James 1:22-25: But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
Application:
  • If your growth in Godliness were measured by the quality of your Bible intake, what would be the result?
  • What is one thing that you can do to improve your intake of God’s Word?
  • Will you prove yourself to be an applier of God’s Word?
